What little faith we have - Poem by Raymond A. Foss

In this world of illusion
of lies of self-reliance
of the shoulder to the wheel
and lifting up our own bootstraps

Forgetting the source of all that is
all that ever was
God alone providing
the heavens and the earth
all above and below

What little faith we have
thinking we are gods
able even for an instant
to provide for our needs

God alone worthy
his love abounding
providing for the birds, the flowers
for all the grasses of the fields

How much more will he give us
if we turn to him
how much more does he offer
wanting us to live

Sending his son to the earth
to the rugged cross
dying that we may be free from sin
rising that we may live with him
