Christ stopped
kneeled down before them
his robe cast off
and a towel round his waist
Humbly, as a servant
washing them clean
made clean for service
in preparation for new life
Prepared, made clean
commissioned in this way
the bread and cup to follow
as he showed them God’s plan
But first to still them
to wash the dust off
to model service
our Savior, our God
So much more
than simply washing dust
preparing them for witness
on their walk in this life
Each of us needing
the love of our Savior
washing off the earth
with the water of his blood
saving us fully
that we may serve in love
