While we were yet sinners
Prodigals, still in that foreign land
living in squalor
eating the pods
in our sinful selves
separated from God

While we were yet unbelieving
God dying for us
going to the cross,
the lamb
dying in our place
Not just on the road
when we turn for home
dying for us while
we still denied his name
