Far too often
we believe the lie of the sing song
that sticks and stones will break us
but words will never hurt us
Far too often
whether on the playground
the halls of power
even in church
Words can destroy
tear down our neighbors
sowing division
starting a schism
All of us called
to be lights to the nations
shining light in the darkness
to the ends of the earth
That light is Love
the fact of Jesus
God come down
walking the earth
He modeled love
servanthood, compassion
he chose the cross
to see us free from sin
He did not destroy
Christ offered forgiveness
even on the cross
a prayer to almighty God
We should lift up
carrying His message
then we would truly be light
to pierce the darkness of this world
