Wasteful - Poem by Raymond A. Foss

Wasteful with his gifts
the riches of this life
gorging on his excess
crumbs falling to the ground

The beggar able to survive
by what falls from the table
that which he would throw away
the trash of his wasteful life

How much more he could do
if he opened his unseeing eyes
the neighbor right in front of him
needing his compassion, his help in this life

So easy to walk the other way
to ignore those in need
to waste the gifts we have
what more we could do

If we would open our hearts
our doors and homes to those in need
no strangers in the world
members of the family indeed
