Dragging Their Feet by Raymond A. Foss

How their feet must have been heaven
on the Emmaus Road
leading them from Jerusalem
taking them back to their home

The joy of his entrance
the hosannas raised on high
the confusion of his words
the dread of his suffering

The leaders killing the king
turning him over to Rome
the scourging and the cross
what were they to believe

The Messiah dying on the cross
his body and his blood
poured out at such a cost
that we may truly live

Yet they did not know the rest
how the story would unfold
not able to believe
dragging their feet in despair
out on the dusty road
