Christ didn’t say to the rich man
that he had to give everything away
he didn’t say poverty
was a prerequisite to be saved
What he said was almost as subversive
almost as radical as that
that we are to give away that which possesses us
that we can give God our heart
We are to share as we are able
not holding anything back
not storing up our treasure
in things that will rust
Living as his disciples
following the way of the cross
serving our neighbors in need
walking humbly in this life
Storing up our treasure
in kindnesses on the earth
sharing the good news of Jesus
as we walk in the world
Honoring his commands
that we love our neighbor
in the process loving their maker,
our God and our king

“Eternal God, we have come this day to be with you,
to talk with you, to listen to you, to hear your voice,
to rest in your embrace. Help us to put aside the worries
