The illusion of something unique
that we somehow are worthy
that more than grace is at play
in bringing us to glory
We craft for ourselves
stumbling blocks for our neighbors
as if they are unworthy of grace
when we deserve God’s favor
Nothing farther from the truth
no matter when we come to believe
our lives the save as them
all of us needing the saving of Christ
Masks of difference only
at our base we are all made of clay
all of us sinners, unworthy
by God alone are we saved

Matthew 20:1-16
sermon, "Grumbling about Grace"
by Rev. Frank Gulinello
“Jesus’ parable of the laborers in the vineyard is about
a gracious God whose grace is extraordinarily and
excessively extravagant. Sometimes the
amazing grace of God causes us to grumble because
it seems to be unjust and not fair in our view of the way life should be.”
