There on the mountain
Christ coming to rest
the disciples coming to him
sitting on the lawn
outside, under the sky
beginning to speak, to teach,
these words of Christ
offered for us all
on how to live
not of the world
but in God
Blessings to us
to all the world
a state of blessedness
not conformed
to the sense of power
of might making right
but in the spirit of love
caring for others
loving our neighbors
walking humbly
in his holy name
And, needing to be purposeful,
to stay true to these teachings
speaking when it is trying
shouting for justice
adding salt, seasoning
persevering in the storms
walking in blessedness
humbly before our God
that his truth may be known
this teaching taught
to the ends of the earth

Matthew 5:1-13
Beatitudes
and email, “Notes from Peter” (Hey)
received July 1, 2010
“This Sunday my sermon is titled “Pursuing More Than Happiness,”
and it is based on Matthew 5:1-13. If you have a few minutes to read
this passage of scripture prior to attending the service, you might get
a little more out of the sermon. In this sermon, I want to challenge us all
to live with greater intentionality and to find deeper levels of meaning
for our lives. Instant gratification can be the enemy of faithful living.
Intentionality is the path to blessedness.”
