Comfort in His Story by Raymond A. Foss

If we slow our reading
and treasure all the words
learning from a righteous man
who stumbled before God

Taking his case to the highest court
yet truly with his hat in his hand
arguing more than he should
the facts decidedly against him

Comfort in his story
at least in part
faithful, humbling himself
before the Lord, our God

In this we can relate
when we struggle here in life
wondering how things came to be
when troubles knock on our door

Able like him to come before God
laying our petitions down
yet needing to be mindful like him
when we push the envelope

The one whom we call Father
creator of heaven and earth
able to understand far more than us
the distance between us and him

Answering the Clay

The potter spoke
out of the whirlwind
answering the claim
rebuking his claims
the demands he dared to speak

A reminder, the distance to God
how far below
is the home of man

Walking in the dust
rather than riding the clouds
Marveling at the works
of His majestic hands

His Comeuppance

In the chapters growing
wondering when it would happen
when his comeuppance
his response would come
Over and over questioning the creator
challenging God, not just asking
demanding an accounting
a justification from the one who made us
A mortal asking for a reason from the potter
stubborn clay, judging God
His answer in the whirlwind
the challenge of the maker
Where were you when I made all?
Who are you to question me;
and what right do you claim
calling me to task?
