The Righteous - Poem by Raymond A. Foss

Those in the room that night
the priests, the leaders, the elders
those charged to know and teach
the law to all the people

The righteous gathered
in the seat of their power
the living God in their presence
passing judgment on the Christ

Trying to catch him with false accusations
the lies not holding up under pressure
needing to make him swear an oath
claiming his divinity

Blind to his truth
acknowledging his true identity
only able to see his threat
to their power, authority

Judging God guilty
unworthy to live another day
getting ready to sacrifice the lamb
the son of God that day
