Without Value - Poem by Raymond A. Foss

The things in his home
the possession that he had collected
his accumulated wealth
like spoiled grains in the silos
Without value, stored up
His feet hobbled by their weight
his soul crippled,
holding on to the world

The master before him
the one he had run to
offering him hope
salvation if he would follow
But the price too steep
the rich man answered
choosing his possessions
over the walk with the Lord

His head hung down,
turning sorrowfully,
knowing the choice he was making
at some level aware
but unable to change
