A shroud of purple, soiled color
royalty mocked, in the prison, in the dungeon
a king with a reed for a scepter, thorns for a crown
stripped and flogged, scourged for our sins
after a farce of a trial, accusation,
harsh judgment of the mob
before the ignominy of the skull, of the cross
ridicule by the Romans, by the soldiers
denying him honor, even dignity
under a shadow of mockery.
