From the beginning
in the swaddling clothes,
the gifts of gold, of frankincense,
of myrrh, the perfume of burial,
in the response of the king, of power
another way home for the Magi
the death of innocents.
The prophecies of old unfolding
the ribbon of time,
the story of his life
leading to the cross
