Avoiding the massacre
the killing of the innocents
the one life spared;
flight to Egypt
The life of the one,
the one who was marked
to save the people,
of the covenant
of the new covenant
God saved the one life,
understanding, perhaps where we cannot
the uniqueness of this one life
this young child, born to save us
The child who was important,
before all tasks, before all other goods,
worthy of saving, of praise,
of reverence, of anointing with oil
the one soul saved,
from the wrath of the king
to save us all
