If I could write a sermon on Ruth What words would I use, what would I say? to tell the world about Ruth How would I convey the person she is? to share what I know, what I have learned Where would I turn, where would I look? to find the words, the right words Who would I ask, to help me in the telling? the inmates, the pastors, the sisters in faith Which of these would lead me to a fuller story? explore the nuances, the linking of her life to her namesakes Why would I spend the time to find the words to share? Because there is a sermon to share about Ruth, A story of loyalty, of fealty, of love, of servanthood worthy to be told, to be heard, to understand. Who she is, why she does the things she does, where she feels called to be, what she hopes to achieve, and which sandals she is willing to wear. And the answer to when is why not now.
