Zipping Her Coat by Raymond A. Foss
An extra precious moment of peace stopping the back and forth of my day crouch down before her, as she adjusts the new backpack on her small frame stocking cap and matching mittens mark the change of season a winter coat, open at the front I slowly match the zipper halves, zip up the coat and snap it shut tapping her on the chest She gives me that smile, that hug that melt your heart, “I love you daddy” She turns and is gone, out the door Pre-school awaits after all don’t want to be late for gym, Dad Off she goes and I return to my tasks happier for taking the moment to zip her coat
