There was a scar of dark black brown open water, cut through the thin skin of ice the pond lit by the light light of fall almost winter, overcast day, snow to come in the forecast, later today a gash in the pond, wider than necessary from use, by the occupants of the den on the point, the mound, out in the pond the hidden beavers, keeping the water moving while around it giving in to the cold the joining of the crystals sealing the pond for winter
