Wet dull brown oak leaves red maple, yellow birch, fell in showers, amidst the big secondary rain drops under the canopy of the old oak falling to the wet pavement, pooling, puddling, sharing layers of space, fusing with the September rain in the dark of the shadows, in brightening as sun filters through the steel grey clouds looking out the kitchen window over the dishes in the sink watch the curtains of leaves, swirl in the breeze, drizzle downward, earthward, prisoners of gravity, of the whim of the wind raining down this afternoon
