caught in line, in the hall,
bookstore, library
on the stairs

"how's it going"
On the fly, off the cuff
"see ya later"

Trite, clipped fluff
vacuous, empty -
Verbal Twinkies

Too self-centered, focused,
Unseeing,
harried
to allow reflection, insight,
real sharing,
compassion, connection

Wondering what
they would do/say
If you actually answered
the throw away
- How's it going?
with meaning
