What You Mean To Me by Gary R. Ferris
I remember when I met you,
At a table all alone;
I thought you were so pretty,
Shining like a stone. ***** I asked you if you’d like to dance,
And shyly, you agreed;
And afterwards, I kissed you,
And love planted its seed. ***** I really didn’t expect to see you,
Anymore after that;
But, fate would bring us together,
And you would wear my hat. ***** After weeks of burning desire,
We laid down to love;
For me that night was special,
And I thank the Lord above. *****
At first, I was very confused,
Love could this be?
My mind told me to run away,
But my heart was blind to see. ***** I remember rushing home from work,
To get home to be with you;
And you would meet me at the door,
And our love we would renew. ***** Away, alone we would go,
On trips so far away;
We spent our nights making love,
And laughter filled our days. ***** I remember when we first found out,
My child you would bare;
You thought I’d run away and leave,
And that I didn’t care. *****
Even though you were young,
It did not seem to matter;
I’d take you for my wife to be,
And let the people chatter. ***** Our wedding was not a masterpiece,
But every word I meant;
For me there was only one buy,
And my money had been spent. ***** I remember when our child was born,
How I was very proud;
My love for you had doubled,
And my head was in a cloud. ***** Just as sure as summer was gone,
The winter had to come;
The sounds of change and trouble,
Were beating on the drum. *****
The more I tried to love you,
The more you pushed away;
Deep within myself,
Is where I had to stay. ***** You were changing quickly,
And I was hurting more;
I remember crying,
When you walked out the door. ***** I believed my life was finished,
When you said we were through;
You no longer loved me,
And there was nothing I could do. ***** But how does one forget,
His life and all his dreams;
And watch you tear your life apart,
And your soul burst at the seams. *****
You may not care for me,
But I still care for you;
The Lord will be my refuge,
My love He will renew. ***** You’re just not some girl,
That I can cast away;
You’re my life and part of me,
Just like yesterday. ***** My hope is that someday,
You will come to see;
Just how much I need you,
And what you mean to me. *****
